Ethan Ampadu is the most experienced player in the current Chelsea squad.
In 2022-23, Chelsea had one of the worst seasons ever. Two managerial changes – Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter – didn’t help matters. They finished 12th in the league, two places below their 10th-place finish in 2015-16, their worst season ever, and were eliminated from all cup competitions.
The club is now busy preparing for the 2023-24 season. For now, the focus is on cleanup rather than reinforcement. After spending more than 800 billion won in the last two transfer windows, the squad is bloated.
They’ve already sold 10 players. N’Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly were sent to Saudi Arabia, while Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Edouard Mendy, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Cesar Aspilicueta, Tiemoue Bakayoko, and Abdul Baba Rahman left the club. Other potential departures include Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic.
That’s pretty much a complete overhaul. 메이저사이트 With the departures of Aspilicueta, Kante, Loftus-Cheek, and Baba Rahman, Chelsea’s longest-serving player is Ampadu, who joined the club in July 2017. In fact, no player in Chelsea’s squad joined the team earlier than Ampadu, according to soccer statistics site Transfer Markt. Kepa Arrizabalaga was second, joining the club in August 2018, followed by Callum Hudson-Odoi, Pulisic, and Reece James. While James is a Chelsea youth player, he didn’t officially make his first-team debut until 2019, so he’s behind Ampadu.
Of course, “most experienced” doesn’t mean much. Despite having been at Chelsea for nearly six years, Ampadu has only made 12 appearances for the club. He also spent four consecutive seasons out on loan, ending in 2018-19. He played his first full season for Sheffield United in 2020-21, before gaining experience with regular appearances for Venice in 2021-22 and Spezia in 2022-23.
However, his future at Chelsea is unclear. Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t seem to be considering utilizing him. According to N’Zar Kinsella of the Evening Standard, Ampadu has returned to Chelsea, but will be categorized as a “loanee”.
